'Let Jesus Shine through Us,' Says Martin

Image
Jerry Martin    “We’re all wired a little bit differently,” Mr. Jerry Martin said, speaking at a Brotherhood meeting on Sat., March 2, 2024, at Faith Temple, Taylors, SC.  “Nobody is a cookie-cutter type Christian,” he said. “We’re not all the same. My oddity is I really want to believe what I hear; I need to know it’s true… I’m a little standoffish in the beginning. I’ve seen too many people — I’ve done it myself — just grab something and run with it, only to find out it might not be true, might not be what the Lord had in mind for me… Once I know I can believe it, I believe it. But I want to know who I’m hearing it from is credible.”  Martin told of stopping at a rest stop on I-26 and seeing a man with a “personal PA system” he was wearing. The man was witnessing loudly for the Lord, saying things such as, “Friend, do you know Jesus?”  “Just blasting everybody out,” Martin said. “He was a little obnoxious. Good message, but I question the delivery… He w...

Thankful ... by Sandra Martin

Sandra Martin   I am truly thankful and  grateful for my Faith Temple family! Recently, when my mother passed, I felt surrounded by your care, support, love, and prayers for God's comfort and guidance. I know from experience that this level of care and concern does not exist in all church settings. Thank you all for being that kind of church family that truly extends the love of Jesus to those in need.

I Know This to be True – by Jerry Martin

I am so glad that God, in His time and wisdom, helps us to change how we think!   Think about it; do you like the same food, entertainments, activities, or music that you did when you were 25? Do you still run with the same crowd that you did back then? I would guess some of these things have changed for you. I certainly know they changed for me. I grew up listening to the Rock & Roll music of the 1960s and 1970s. I preferred music that had a driving beat, whether the lyrics had any meaning at all or not. (They usually didn’t!) After being introduced to Christ and trying to learn to like spiritual music, here again, I needed a beat in order to like it. Songs from the traditional church hymnals were boring (you know the old “red-backed hymnal”). They would put me to sleep! Well, now, I have learned to listen closely to the words of those old songs, beat or no beat, and try to feel what the songwriter was trying to say. This is a huge difference from wh...
