Five Folk from Faith Temple Honor Mothers
Mrs. Diane Ebert
On Mother’s Day 2025, Sun., May 11, Mrs. Diane Ebert honored Mrs. Tweedie Few, her deceased mother. Diane’s sister Sally and Diane’s daughter Chelsea were present. Diane thanked Mrs. Sarah Lell, Tweedie’s sister, for “stepping right in where my mother left off… I thank God I had a godly mother,” Diane said. “She never wavered from her beliefs… always there for us… She did her best to raise us right… She may not have been perfect, but she was perfect for me. I will always love her and miss her.”
Mrs. Sandra Martin
Mrs. Sandra Martin’s late mother, Mrs. Frances Truett Long, was born in 1937 near Sumter, SC. Born next to last, with 6 bros. and 3 sisters, she picked cotton. She was saved under the Rev. Denny Long and married him when she was 16 in 1954 (wed for 68 years). Rev. Long worked full-time but preached too. “I was in middle school (1968) when he was assigned his first (PH) church to pastor,” Sandra said. They pastored 10 churches and raised Sandra and Wanda, Sandra’s younger sister. “The unpaid, unmentioned, behind-the-scenes, doer-of-all-things, prayer warrior, strong servant-of-God wife is the other half of that [ministerial] team. She loved people… She loved her Lord more than anything.”
Mrs. Katina Henson and Ms. Courtney Henson
Mrs. Katina Henson paid tribute to her mother, Ms. Beatrice Whitman, 79, who was present, along with Katina’s older brother Lamar, sister Cindy, 7 grandchildren, and 5 great grandkids. “She raised us to be honorable; she raised us here in this church,” Katina said. “Mom has always trained us in God’s word… I’m thankful I have a ‘prayer warrior of a mom.’ My mother is a godly woman, a wonderful teacher… she doesn’t have a problem laying her hands on you and praying… We have done that with our children.” Courtney, Katina’s daughter, read a poem: “A Mother’s Prayer.”
Mrs. Ann Burrows
Mrs. Ann Burrows said of the late Mrs. Vivian Butler, “Mom was a perfect example of a Christian mother. She was a loving, nurturing, teaching, praying, Bible-reading, strict, in-your-business, question-asking, …[church attendance-requiring] kind of a mom. She always had a Bible on her lap and a prayer on her lips.” Mrs. Butler wrote three yearly devotionals which, when Ann reads, she hears them “in my mother’s voice.” Ann’s dad posts those writings on Facebook in her honor. “I can testify to you this morning that she was my most precious treasure,” Ann said. She led Ann (at age 6) to the Lord. “It was real, and it stuck,” Ann said.
Mr. Michael Campbell
Mr. Michael Campbell said, “I want to talk about my mother, Dorothy “Dot” Bails Campbell.” Born May 10, 1929, she was also Michael’s grandmother. She married Theodore Campbell, Michael’s grandfather, and they had 3 children. They moved from PA to SC and attended Faith Temple. Michael’s mother died. Ted and Dot adopted Michael, a baby, and his older brother Alan. “I made mistakes… but she [known as “Gammy”] didn’t see those mistakes. I was the child of her old age… The kind of love I felt growing up is an example of how God loves us.” Michael said. He hopes to love his children and grandchildren with that kind of love, he said.
