KEVIN LUTZ TALKS ABOUT HIS LIFE

Kevin Lutz

Mr. Kevin Lutz, 59, spoke at the Sat., Jan. 7, 2024, Brotherhood meeting (8:30 a.m.) at Faith Temple, Taylors, SC. Kevin is a 26-year employee of N.W. White & Co., “the largest dump truck company in the Southeast (SC).” He refueled trucks when first hired but works now as a mechanic at their Anderson (Powdersville) site. He and wife Annette live in Travelers Rest and attend Enoree Baptist Church; they attended Faith Temple, years ago.

“At Christmastime, we want to see Baby Jesus, but sometimes, we need to see him high and lifted up,” Kevin said. “No matter how hard it gets, we have hope. He read from 1 Corinthians 13 and Revelation, chapters 4, 5, and 22 … “Come up hither”… “the seven spirits of God”… “Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created” (Rev. 4:11).

Born in Ohio as the 4th of five children, Kevin left high school at age 17. His mother signed and he joined the Army, spending three years in field artillery, three years in an engineer battalion, and a year in the reserves. He served in Germany, Fort Hood, Ft. Polk, Ft. Sill, and in Virginia.

Kevin’s mother, Mrs. Doris Darnell, moved to Greenville County, SC, in the early 1990s. Kevin came to Faith Temple when visiting his mom in 1995-96. In 1997-98, he began attending Faith Temple. In 1998, he was at home by himself on New Year’s eve. “I was bad to drink,” he said. That night, by himself, he became convicted and prayed to receive Christ. The next day as he drove around, he wondered if he had been too drunk the night before to have really gotten “saved.” As he drove, he saw a sign on a clothing store that said, “Somehow you just know.” He felt that was a sign of confirmation to him about his Christian conversion.

He was still drinking months after that. His mother had a dream that Kevin was “up in the air” and she saw “bands” (of bondage) “popping off” of him. She told him, “You’re going to be delivered!” Ten minutes later he was putting on his shoes to go to a liquor store, and the desire to drink alcohol left him.

Kevin has an adult son, Justin. Annette has three adult children: Travus, Tammy, and Tim. Kevin and Annette married in 2006 and adopted (from extended family) baby twins, Kayden (son) and Kenna (daughter) who are seven years old (in 2024).

Kevin says about adopting the twins: “I wouldn’t change it. We prayed about it. I’ve never looked back.”

Kevin’s mother, Doris Darnell, lived with Kevin and Annette for 10 years before she passed. Kevin’s dad, Mr. Marion Lutz, who was remarried to Caroline, Annette’s mother, died in Feb. 2018. Now, Mrs. Caroline Lutz is living with Kevin and Annette.
