Teaching Is a Calling
By Kaity Robertson (Pictured) ... as told to Jerry Martin
“Teaching is a calling.” I have heard this said by my professors at North Greenville University in Greenville County, SC, during my time there.
NGU has held a special place in my heart for years and so has the thought of teaching the children of tomorrow. I was able to achieve my NGU attendance back in the fall of 2021. It has been a true blessing, getting to experience NCU and its elementary teachers prep program.
It has been hard at times, but when God calls you to something that He intends for you to do, He will provide you a way. I’ve struggled with things during my time at NGU, but God has truly seen me through the past almost three full years. He still continues to provide for me, even now.
I was blessed to have a “student-taught” at my first school this past fall. I was in a classroom full of third-graders and their regular teacher. God allowed me a great first-time in the classroom.
The children were great, and their teacher was amazing! She faithfully fulfilled her promise of help and encouragement; she printed off worksheets, lesson plans, and other things to help me along the way. She helped me write my lesson plans and even guided me on several different things, giving me different tips and tricks!
Before long, I really felt as though I was part of that classroom. The students helped me with my confidence in speaking in front of a class, and their teacher helped with everything above. To say God was not part of that whole experience would be a lie! I know that with anything I choose to do in life, troubles are going to come. Things aren’t always going to go the way I hoped they would, but that’s OK. If God wants something to happen, then He will make it happen.
I know God called me into the teaching field, and I know that it’s going to be a hard road at times, but honestly, even the hard roads are drivable with God at the wheel.”
“Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will declare what He has done for my soul” (Ps. 66:16).
