I Know This To Be True
By Sandra Martin (pictured above), as told to Jerry Martin
Anyone who knows us knows that we don’t buy many new cars; in fact, we’ve only had 2 new cars in our almost 50 years of marriage. So, for us, it was a big deal when we ordered a special-order car just for us in Spring of 2022.
We loved our new Honda Civic from the day we picked it up in May of 2023. During our very first long-distance trip (to Wisconsin), we encountered bad road construction and crazy traffic in Indianapolis. The car directly in front of us swerved suddenly to dodge a hazard in the road; we ran over it. It was a large piece of construction rebar steel! This steel stuck under our car at freeway speed, and we had to pull over and dis-lodge the steel from under the car. We couldn’t see any visible damage, so we (thankfully) drove on. From that time on, we never saw a leak from under the car, so we assumed all was well.
Last week we had our car serviced. During the service the technician called us out to look at what he’d found. He showed us the “gravel guard” from the front area of the car which was directly beneath the motor/transmission area. This steel gravel guard was bent into the form of a folded-over taco. He said he’d never seen anything like this and had no idea how it could have happened. We knew! It was that rebar steel that we hit in the road that did the damage. The technician said if it hadn’t been for the gravel guard, the re-bar could have done very extensive and costly damage to the motor and transmission.
So, Sandra can tell you that God carefully watches over and shields His children sometimes in the most remarkable ways. He is always award of our situation.
“Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will declare what He has done for my soul” (Ps. 66:16).
