Pastor Kevin Kellough Speaks at Faith Temple

October 14, 2022

Pastor Kevin Kellough and Mrs. Judith Diane Kellough, his wife, visited Faith Temple (FT), Taylors, SC, on Sun., Oct. 2, 2022. Brother Kevin has served over 30 years as pastor of New Testament Church of the Firstborn, Gastonia, NC.

“As we gather together, we feel the presence of the Holy Ghost,” he said, speaking at FT. He said that God knows our good and bad parts and “all of me gets to come to the Marriage Table. God welcomes all of me. … Remember, every time you condemn a sin, you may be cutting someone off who really needs your prayers.”

Pastor Kevin (Pastor K) proposed that Jesus, at age 13, “applied for the priesthood under the Law of Leviticus” when he talked with the Temple Elders in Jerusalem.

“The Great Sanhedrin” was then Israel’s “supreme court,” made up of 70 men and the high priest. Jesus remained at the Temple, though his parents headed home, unknowingly without him, after making offerings on the Day of Atonement. Jesus evidenced to the Elders that he wanted to be a teacher for God, and he probably quoted verbatim from the Bible’s first five books, Pastor K said. “There he was, the Word made flesh, … in the Temple … answering questions and asking questions.”

Nicodemus was one of the 70 Elders of the Temple when Jesus was 13, Pastor K said. He added that Jesus was 32, maybe near 33, when Nicodemus had ascended from being one of the 70 Elders and served as one of the 12 high priests in the year Jesus died.

“[Nicodemus] came to Jesus by night and said to him, ‘Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him,’” Pastor K said.

Nicodemus, fearful of losing reputation, ventured under cover of darkness to see Jesus who operated in the gifts of the Spirit and knew that Nicodemus was coming (John 3).

“Nicodemus remembers this 13-year-old boy who is now a grown man,” Pastor K said. “Jesus jumps into a word of wisdom … Jesus immediately cuts to the chase … ‘Verily, Verily, I say unto you except a man be born again … This is only going to be mentioned one other time in the Bible, this born-again idea. And the revelation is not in the ‘born’ but in the ‘again’ … again, again? What does he mean ‘born again’? … Nicodemus gets a little bit sarcastic and says, ‘How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?’ … Nicodemus is a bit befuddled and be-fuzzed.”

A person is “born of water” (in the natural) but must “enter” the Kingdom of Heaven by spiritual birth.

Jesus was right on time in entering the world.

“God sent you into this world just as much as he sent Jesus,” Pastor K said. “You’re not here by happenstance, either…  I want you to look at your neighbor and say, ‘I happen to have come from God.’ … I don’t care how great it was — well, I hope it was great for you — or how bad it was, how difficult it was, the pain and the sorrow, maybe your parents didn’t care, didn’t love, didn’t do, whatever. God redeems every bit of that. You are supposed to be here. God’s thought is being manifest through children. That’s why the Church will always be pro-life. We don’t believe in killing God’s ideas. We believe in manifesting God’s ideas. Well, how’s that happen? Babies! Every time a child is born, they’ve taken on the Spirit of God in human form, and God is about to reveal what he had in mind.”

After the crucifixion, Nicodemus — no longer sneaking to talk with Jesus at night — helped Joseph of Arimathea get the bloody body of Jesus off the cross (John 19:39). “The body of Jesus had died on the cross,” Pastor K said, “And in so doing [taking down Jesus’ body], the blood of Jesus got all over Nicodemus. Lift your hand and say, ‘I hope the blood of Jesus gets all over me!’”
