Mr. Calvin Mitchell (“Mickey”) Simpson’s funeral/burial took place at Faith Temple, Taylors, SC, at 3:00 pm on Wed., April 27, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mrs. Imogene Trammell Simpson (his wife), a son, a brother, and a sister. He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Simpson Gault (Jamie), 4 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and the mother of his children, Ms. Carolyn Simpson. He “passed peacefully with his daughter, Kimberly, by his side.”

Mickey (July 22, 1944 - April 22, 2022) worked in construction and was skilled in many things: carpentry, cars (auto racing), plumbing, electricity, etc.

At the funeral, Pastor Raymond D. Burrows read Psalm 23 and “Wings of a Dove,” Mickey’s favorite Gospel recording, was played. Pastor spoke about Lazarus being raised from the dead, quoting Jesus’ words: “I am the resurrection and the life” (John 11:25). Pastor referred to Mickey as “an outstanding individual who loved his family” and “a jack-of-all-trades and a master of many of them.”

When Mrs. Imogene grew sick, Mickey said, “Preacher, I’m gonna take care of Imogene.” “And he did,” Pastor said. To Kimberly, Pastor said, “We salute you for the way you stopped up and cared for your father.” Pastor thanked her husband James also. During his hospitalization, Mickey affirmed, “Everything is all right between me and the Lord.”

Kimberly spoke, thanking Pastor and Ms. Linda Trammell for daily checking on her father during his demise. “I will always be Daddy’s little girl,” she said. “He loved this church. He loved serving here. … Anytime I needed my daddy, he would drop what he was doing and come.” She described the last few weeks in caring for her dad as “the most uplifting spiritual thing I’ve ever been through.”

Vince Gill’s “Go Rest High on that Mountain” was played. Pastor said Mickey usually brought candy to church for Ms. Sage Cowan, 9-year-old daughter of Mr. David and Mrs. Rebecca Cowan. Sage and her parents attended the funeral.

When Ms. Linda Trammell’s husband, Kenneth, died in 2017, Linda suffered a stroke. Her aunt (by marriage), Mrs. Imogene Simpson, helped Linda. “She wanted me to be with somebody,” Linda says. Pastor Burrows found a mobile home for Linda. He and Mickey moved it near the Simpsons. Linda writes here about Mr. Simpson:

“Mickey helped with anything I needed,” Linda says. “He helped me find another car and kept check on the car’s fluids. He’d take it for oil changes and have other items checked. When I needed tires, he took the car and got new ones. … If I went anywhere, he’d tell me he would be around and just call him. I had to call him three times, and, as sure as his word, he came quickly and took care of the problem.

“He and my Aunt Imogene loved Arby’s sandwiches. He’d get roast beef sandwiches for them and always include me. When they went out to eat, I went with them. After Aunt Imogene passed, he included me when he went to get food. If he went to the grocery store, he called and asked if I needed anything.

“He made sure I was OK if bad weather was approaching. He’d change light bulbs and took my trash to the dump when he took his. He always gave me time to get it ready. He would weed-eat and keep the grass cut around where I live.

“He’d always drive whenever we went to church. If Mrs. Fronda Bailey was absent and needed someone to take Ms. Alline Amos to church, she’d ask Mickey. He was glad to. He always went to Ms. Amos’ door and made sure she got in the car OK. He’d give her candy, and at church, he opened her car door and made sure she got inside. After church, he’d open the car door and make sure she got in OK. At her house, he’d get out, open the car door and make sure she was safely in her house.

“Uncle Mickey would do whatever I or anyone needed, if he could. My Aunt Imogene thought he was wonderful. They were a special couple.”
